A collaboration item between "Think Scrap," an upcycle brand from an automotive parts manufacturer that continues to create unique products by combining seatbelt scraps and local scraps, and "ROBERU," a leather craft brand known for its high-quality camera straps made from leather.

Durability to save lives

The tensile strength of a seatbelt (webbing) is approximately 2800N. This is the strength at which it will only break when pulled with a force of over 2800kg. To put it in car terms, one seatbelt can lift a typical SUV or minivan; in animal terms, it can lift a walrus or a giraffe.

Upcycled brand from an automotive parts manufacturer

ThinkScrap is an upcycling brand operated by Tokai Rika Co., Ltd., an automotive parts manufacturer headquartered in Oguchi-cho, Aichi Prefecture.

We are developing upcycled products that utilize the strength and high quality texture characteristic of seat belts, using seat belt remnants that are inevitably generated during the production process. This approach allows us to reduce waste without expending additional energy.

Chance encounter

Mr. Iwamato, CEO of ROBERU, and Mr. Arakawa from ThinkScrap met at the Ethical Tsukiichi Marche, held on the third Sunday of every month at Hisaya-odori Park. Among Mr. Iwamato's high-quality leather products, the camera strap caught Mr. Arakawa's eye. He wondered if seatbelts could be used for it and immediately proposed creating a camera strap with a seatbelt. Two months later, the completed seatbelt camera strap was already on sale.

Even more environmentally friendly

This camera strap utilizes seat belt remnants that inevitably arise during the production process, leveraging the characteristic strength and high quality texture of seat belts. For each regular camera strap, 80cm of what would have been discarded seat belt material is used. Furthermore, the weaving and color of the belt vary depending on the car model, and these characteristics are utilized without any alterations.

The only camera strap in Japan made from seatbelt material. Seatbelt remnants are highly durable and water-resistant, making them long-lasting and resistant to damage even with extended use.

Compatible with all cameras

Leather belt: Can be attached to cameras with a triangular ring. It can also be attached to cameras (including SLR cameras) that have a dedicated flat metal fitting for threading straps. The belt width is 10mm.

Waxed Cord: Compatible with small strap holes often found on compact digital cameras. Can also be attached to parts like the triangular ring shown in the photo.

Q. Is the camera strap length adjustable?

A. The length cannot be adjusted.
We have achieved the optimal length for a comfortable neck strap, so you can use it simply without needing to adjust the size. *The total length is approximately 118 cm, including the leather parts and connecting parts.

Q. Which cameras are compatible?

A: Yes, it is compatible with all cameras. Please choose your preferred design, either a leather strap or a waxed cord type, depending on the shape of the connector part.
