Giving new life to materials that were destined to be discarded.

This tote bag was created from seat belts slated for disposal and offcuts of synthetic leather. By utilizing upcycled materials, we’ve achieved a unique texture and high functionality while minimizing our environmental impact. The charm of this bag lies in the fact that, even within the same design, each piece has a distinct look due to the combination of materials. Seat belts and synthetic leather used in automotive interiors are materials designed to withstand harsh conditions. Three seat belts are used in the gusset, allowing you to carry heavy loads with confidence.

一日の仕事道具を、ひとつのバッグに

底にマチを設け、そのマチ部分には丈夫なシートベルト端材を使用しています。形や厚みの異なる持ち物をまとめて収めやすく、荷物が増える仕事の日にも使いやすい構成です。

ノートPCはクッション入りの収納部へ、A4書類は中央の収納へ。仕事道具の中でも大きな物の収納場所を分けることで、それぞれ決まった位置に収められます。

小物を中で迷わせない

細かな持ち物は、大きな荷物と一緒にするとバッグの中で紛れがちです。移動中によく手に取る物は外側へ。バッグの中でほかの荷物と分けておきたい物は内側へ。使い方に合わせて場所を分けることで、小物の定位置をつくりやすくなります。

出張の移動は、キャリーケースとまとめて

バッグの背面に、キャリーケースのハンドルを通すループがあります。バッグをケースの上に載せ、ハンドルをループに通して取り付けます。手でバッグを持ち続けずに、ケースと一緒に運べます。

小物を取り付けられる、シートベルトの金具

バッグの外側に、シートベルトをバックルへ差し込む金具「タング」を取り付けています。キーホルダーなどを付けられ、好みの小物でアレンジできます。衝突試験などで使われた後、廃棄予定だった部品を活用しています。

Seat Belt

Strength born to protect others.

This product uses scrap materials and other byproducts generated during Tokai Rika’s automotive seatbelt manufacturing process. These are materials that were produced to protect human lives but were never installed in vehicles.

What Remains Before We Take on a Role

During the manufacturing process of automotive seat belts, there are inevitably some leftover pieces that cannot be fully utilized. At THINK SCRAP, we collect these materials and, after checking their colors and condition, transform them into bags and small accessories.

The material used for seat belts is designed to last for more than 10 years in a car. The tensile strength of the material is approximately 3 metric tons (for reference). It also offers excellent light resistance and is durable enough to withstand long-term use.

Synthetic Leather for Automotive Interiors

The softness and durability required for the interior.

This product uses scrap material from synthetic leather for automotive interiors produced by Daiichi Kasei Co., Ltd. Although this material was originally intended for use in vehicle interiors—which are designed to last a long time—it is left over from the manufacturing process.

Materials in the car interior that come into contact with people for long periods of time

Automotive interiors require materials with a texture that feels comfortable to the touch and fits the body, while withstanding the rigors of getting in and out of the vehicle and daily use. Among the materials crafted to meet these quality standards, we are repurposing scrap material generated during the manufacturing process for new applications.

Softness and reliable durability

It offers just the right amount of cushioning and has a texture that feels comfortable in your hand. Because it is resistant to friction and has excellent lightfastness, it’s a material you can use without hesitation in your daily life.
